Have you ever heard of “mikilungay”
and “mikikalabasa” and “mikiampalaya”?
In Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Nemia Sinabal is making not just a twist of noodles
but it is making healthier and nutritional. Well, it’s simply adding the
nutrition of vegetables like malunggay (moringga) and the kalabasa (squash) and
ampalaya (bitter gourd) in her noodles through her Nimia’s Miki.
No preservatives. Healthier packed
with the nutrition value coming from these vegetables. This is not a noodles,
its super-noodles.
Making is so easy by just mixing the
flour to be made as noodles and then add the desired vegetable for the
variants.
1. Add the flour, water and the powdered
malungay.
2. Mix well and then slice to become a
noodle. If there is slicer better put through slicer.
3. Sun dried the noodles.
4. Put into the package
Nemia said the Department of Science and Technology loaned
her slicer machine, stainless hanger and stainless table. And now her business
is growing supplying the key groceries and department stores. Orders are
growing also.
The noodles also
reach abroad.
Nimia’s Miki have
also been tapped by the health department and local government unit to be used
in feeding programs to Day Care centers and elementary pupils who are
underweight.
Price ranges from
P30 to P50 per 250 grams.
